ZF Expands Plant in the Chinese District of Qingpu
29 November 2012
www.chinabuses.org: ZF Friedrichshafen is expanding its production in China. With the expansion at the Qingpu location, the westernmost district of Shanghai, the capacities for the production of rubber-metal and plastic components for the automotive industry are doubled.
Since the location’s establishment in 2008, rubber-metal components have been developed and manufactured in Qingpu. Given the very good development of demand, a considerable expansion was necessary in order to be able to produce the requested quantities. For this reason, ZF has moved into two new workshop halls over the past few months and doubled the production area to about 23 000 square meters. 570 employees work in the plant’s halls that cover a total area of 30 000 square meters.
In addition to the present rubber-metal product portfolio, the plastics production for automotive applications will be included in Qingpu: In 2013, the production of plastics pedal modules and further plastics components will start there.
“Since its foundation, the Qingpu plant has continuously developed in a very successful way. The current expansion impressively confirms our activities in China and the good business relations with our global and local customers,” says Dr. Torsten Bremer, responsible for the Rubber and Plastics business unit of the Chassis Technology division.
ZF has already been active in China for more than three decades: In 1980, the first sales and service contract was signed; in 1981, the first license was granted in the Republic of China. In 1987, ZF’s first Chinese subsidiary followed in Beijing. Since 1994, ZF has had its own production locations in China and the number has increased to 22 now.
