200 BYD Pure Electric Buses for Universiade

03 August 2011

www.chinabuses.org: BYD Company would deliver 500 electric vehicles to Shenzhen public transport system as a “green gift” for Universiade, including 200 K9 pure electric public buses and 300 e6 pure electric taxis. As the exclusive sponsor in automotive, BYD would provide shuttle service with e6 and k9 pure electric vehicles as limos and working vehicles, making this Universiade a green and low carbon one.

Shenzhen government said there would be 3810 vehicles used for Universiade and 2011 new energy vehicles, accounting for 52.8% of total vehicles, according to the demand of “new energy vehicles accounting for half of the total vehicles” and “full coverage of all stadiums” in “26th Universiade New Energy Vehicles Demonstration Operation Scheme”. There would be a largest new energy fleet in the history of Universiade, making a new record of new energy vehicles demonstration operation.

With battery technology advantage, BYD developed K9 pure electric bus independently, which was driven by electric energy, pollution-free, noise-free and emission-free. With lithium iron phosphate battery that is of high-safety, long service life and environment protection, K9 is able to run 250 km, over 300 km with air-conditioner shut. Fast charge device could restore 50% electric power within 30 minutes and solar panel above the roof may collect solar energy as supporting power.

It is estimated that fuel consumption cost of K9 is less than 1/3 of that of traditional fuel bus. After the Universiade, these pure electric buses will still be used as public buses. BYD plans to replace the traditional fuel buses in Shenzhen and Changsha with k9 within 3 to 5 years, becoming the top supplier for urban public transport solution.

Demonstration operation of BYD new energy vehicles in Universiade was like a big road show, and electric vehicle market will be opened up afterwards.
