Moscow Launches 3rd Regular Route for Rlectric River Transport to Expand Fleet and Improve Rcology
25 June 2025
Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin participated via video conference in the opening ceremony of the third regular electric river transport route, Novospassky—ZIL.
The new route spans 5.4 kilometers and includes six stops, connecting four city districts: Zamoskvorechye, Danilovsky, Tagansky, and Yuzhnoportovy. Passengers now have the opportunity to transfer and save travel time by choosing new river transport options.
"Our river trams have become very popular in Moscow, capital of Russia. What seems like a simple project actually required advanced technology, new organization, hard work, and logistics. A modern shipyard for electric vessels is being built in Moscow, which we hope will reach full capacity this year. In just two years since the project’s launch, nearly two million passengers have been transported — a huge number for such small vessels at first glance. But they are very popular. That’s why today, we’re launching a third route connecting Zamoskvorechye and ZIL, adding six more vessels to the fleet. By the end of the year, we hope to introduce four more ships, significantly expanding the fleet", — Sergey Sobyanin said.
The Russian capital plans to continue developing electric river transport and gradually convert diesel-powered tourist boats to electric propulsion. This will help improve the ecology of the Moskva River and the city as a whole.
The third regular electric river transport route will link four districts —Zamoskvorechye, Danilovsky, Tagansky, and Yuzhnoportovy — home to over 55,000 residents. This will enhance transport services in the developing former industrial zone of ZIL, where a new urban district is taking shape, with plans to construct 8.5 million square meters of real estate.
