www.chinabuses.org: BEIJING –The Uruguayan Public Transport Company (CUTCSA) bought 200 Allison-equipped buses to help provide modern, safe, reliable transportation solutions, while ensuring a high level of customer satisfaction. CUTCSA has been using Allison-equipped vehicles for over 20 years, but for the first time, the fleet renovation that began last year will result in a 100 percent automatic-equipped bus fleet.
Allison Transmission continues to win customers and supporters in Uruguay with its Torqmatic Series™ fully automatic transmissions, specially engineered for urban and intercity buses. In Montevideo half of the population – 600,000 citizens – use public transportation daily, mainly subways and large buses. Allison Transmission works with CUTCSA to provide superior fully automatic transmission solutions for daily service that connects more than 100 locations within Montevideo, as well as outside the city to San José and Canelones.
“Increased transit demand, fuel consumption costs and lack of driver training are the three main reasons use of automatic transmissions is rising in the automotive sector,” said Gustavo Quartino, commercial manager for Autolider, the official Mercedes-Benz distributor in Uruguay.
Allison fully automatic transmissions deliver greater comfort for both drivers and passengers, with Continuous Power Technology™, which provides uninterrupted powershifts to reduce safety hazards and driver fatigue. Reduced maintenance costs and vehicle downtime are additional benefits. Thanks to the patented torque converter, which reduces wear and protects the driveline, the only scheduled maintenance is for fluid and filter replacement.
Better fuel economy is achieved with FuelSense®, a unique package of software and electronic controls, which allows vehicles to obtain the highest levels of fuel economy, regardless of driver experience. Allison engineers focused on all aspects of vehicle operation to achieve the best integrated package, delivering shifts made at just the right points to maintain vehicle performance, while maximizing fuel economy.
As part of this fleet renewal, CUTCSA chose a chassis that offered more features than former vehicles. This new model has pneumatic air suspension for rear and front axle, which is more comfortable for passengers. It has greater power and gross weight, so it can be equipped with a bigger platform and better adapt to the incorporation of the hydraulic lifter installed in the rear door, as required by the law , which provides accessibility for the differently-abled.
“We have been gathering very positive feedback regarding the features, operation and great performance these buses provide to CUTCSA and its owners. In fact, other companies in Montevideo and around the country are already acquiring the same model for urban and suburban use,” said Quartino.
