Bosch Searches for Lithium Battery Partner

www.chinabuses.org: Bosch stopped its cooperation with Samsung for some reasons, and they are seeking more reliable and modern partner on electrification fields, said Bernd Bohr Bosch Group Auto Technology Chairman. And this is the first time for Bosch Group to seek partner to develop battery technology.
Bosch and Samsung set a joint venture by 50%-50% in 2008, and they plan to invest 300-400 million USD in five years. They started to produce hybrid and electric high efficiency Li-battery since 2011 and they plan to sell them all over the world. However, the joint venture didn't profit for four years and they decided to set apart of the joint venture.
Given expensive battery costs and limited cruising ability, there is much uncertainty for marketing. Bosch plans to retrive costs by economies of scale which needs produciton integrity and standard parts. "We can enlarge production scale, share development costs and improve our technology ability on integrity system, so we need new partner to develope Li-battery etc. projects," said Mr. Bohr.
Electricity drive system cannot become the mainstream of auto industry in the following ten years, but the future belongs to electric auto no matter how to improve efficiency for diesel and gas auto. Bosch Group invests 100 euro on powertrains each year for the upcoming new energy auto time.
Bosch Group will finish 30 powertrain electricity program till 2014.
