www.chinabuses.org: Last June, Allison delivered 620 automatic transmissions for Mercedes-Benz and Volare buses. And now, these vehicles are used by fleet operators as part of the integrated transportation system, Transantiago, at the country's capital. The LO915 Mercedes-Benz and W9 Volare buses are each equipped with an Allison 2100 Series fully automatic transmission.

The Allison 2100 Series transmission features six forward gears, patented torque converter technology and adaptive electronic controls. This technology provides reduced maintenance and outstanding fuel economy as a result of low engine speed operation. Allison’s fully automatic transmissions offer the smooth shifting, quiet  operation and overall comfort that allow for both high efficiency and increased safety, as the driver is able to keep both hands on the steering wheel and both eyes focused on the road.

Allison has been supplying automatic transmissions to OEMs in the South American market for many years. In fact, according to Adrian Dinunzio, Sales Account Manager for Allison Transmission in Chile, “The laws governing public transportation in Chile require automatic transmissions be used in Transantiago city buses, due in large part to safety and environmental concerns. The Chilean capital established technical requirements for passenger transportation considering both rider and operator needs and defined automatic transmissions as a fundamental component for public transportation.

Adding these new 620 fully automatic buses, nearly 2,500 Allison-equipped buses have been integrated into the system, recognizing the proven durability, reliability and productivity of Allison transmissions around the world.

Customer support is also very important to Allison, which has long partnered with Detroit Chile, a local Santiago-based dealer. Responsive and well-stocked with genuine Allison Transmission parts, Detroit Chile personnel are trained, knowledgeable and prepared to support the increased fleet of new automatic buses in the city.
