Telma Retarders Becomes Independent Again
22 February 2011
www.chinabuses.org: Telma Rallentisseurs of Saint Ouen l’Aumone, France, till recently a subsidiary of Valeo, has been made independent again through a management buy-out. New owner is Jan Bor, General Manager of Valeo which function he retains in the new setup; he bought the company with the help of some Chinese partners, who are mainly financially involved. Earlier plans of Valeo to sell Telma to venture capitalists where abandoned.
Jan Bor sees possibilities for Telma and its electric retarders on the Chinese and the Indian market, where vehicle safety and new rules for commercial vehicle and bus/coach braking systems could create an important marketplace for his company’s products in due course. Other opportunities are emerging in the field of the alternative drivelines, among others for buses and coaches: Telma electric retarders could be constructed in such a way that they can be used for recuperating brake energy and also use them as an electric motor in for example hybrid drivelines.
