MICHELIN: A Pioneer of Environmental Protection
04 August 2009
English.chinabuses.com: MICHELIN is playing an active role in reducing the cost and environmental impact of road transport. The goal of MICHELIN is to design tires that help to reduce fuel consumption while maintaining the same high performance in the areas of safety and tread life.
The most recent car tire developed using this technology is the MICHELIN Energy Saver, of which 23 million units have been sold since its launch. These tires have reduced overall fuel consumption by 65.6 million liters, the equivalent of 1.3 million full tanks of gas. As a result, they have helped to reduce CO2 emissions by 131,000 tonnes, equal to the amount that would have been produced by 73,000 autos in one year.
Since 1992, MICHELIN has developed four generations of fuel-efficient tires for autos. They have reduced fuel consumption by more than 11 billion liters and CO2 emissions by more than 28 million tonnes worldwide.
