Golden Dragon Takes Full Advantage of Big Data

30 July 2015

www.chinabuses.org: Since 2003, Golden Dragon has been making great efforts to realize deepened integration of industrialization and information technologies and build its order management system. In 2013, the bus maker further upgraded its order management system, which has been in use since then. Thanks to its rich experience in applying information technologies in its corporate management and business operation, Golden Dragon was selected as a pilot enterprise for pushing forward the integration of industrialization and information technologies by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT). In the meantime, its newly upgraded order management system was recognized as a model study case. Now it can be well said that Golden Dragon has entered a new era of industrialization characterized by big data.

Golden Dragon Takes Full Advantage of Big Data

A New Breakthrough

One of the major characteristics of the bus industry is the customer-tailored orders. Bus makers usually roll out a simplified version before officially releasing its new bus products. When customers place their orders, a host of changes must be made to suit the special needs of customers based on operation needs and operational environment. Due to this reason, bus makers are often hard pressed to manage its orders coming from ever demanding customers. “Despite the huge differences of our customers, they share a lot of similarities as well. The number of commonly used bus configurations is also limited. Through our order management system, we try to categorize our orders and seek similarities out of the seemingly different demands from our customers”, says Hu Daofa, Director of Information Department of Golden Dragon.

A Further Exploration

Golden Dragon’s new project of upgrading its order management system is aimed at further strengthening its advantages and cultivating its core competitiveness after a comprehensive analysis of its current status in China’s bus industry. Along with the deepened integration of industrialization with information technologies, Golden Dragon is hoping to respond more promptly to the ever changing market.

According to the bus maker, its upgraded order management system is based on the whole life-cycle management system and the sales alignment system. The whole life-cycle management system is the source of the sales alignment system, which covers over 400 configuration choices and over 3,000 configuration combinations. The execution of each order is coming from the sales alignment system. When placing an order, Golden Dragon’s customers are required to choose carefully from the system. While the orders are sent to Golden Dragon’s production workshops, they are stored in its sales alignment system for future reference.

A New Revolution

On the back of its huge pool of data from its customers’ orders, Golden Dragon is hoping to smooth its mountains of orders and help its customers find the best bus configuration solutions before the sales of its products. Certainly, the success of a bus company in the future will be largely dependent on customer-tailored products and services.

Apart from the market and customer services, Golden Dragon also plans to introduce the big data to its corporate management. Nowadays, how to take full advantage of the information technologies has become one of the major interests of Golden Dragon’s top leaders. A host of challenges, such as how to integrate corporate management with production, how to apply information technologies in every aspect of its management, how to realize sustainable development by pooling more useful data, will guide Golden Dragon’s future development.

Currently, Golden Dragon’s flow management & consulting project of its supply chain system has already won approval for execution. In the meantime, its workshop manufacturing system and mobile office application system will soon be put into use.
