New Energy Buses to Receive a Maximum of 550,000 RMB Subsidies in Shanghai

www.chinabuses.org: On May 28, Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Transport released its Suggestions on Promoting Energy-saving New Energy City Buses. According to the plan made by Shanghai Municipal Government, the city is striving to expand its eco-friendly bus fleet to 3,000 units by 2015 and to increase the percentage of its new energy buses to its total bus fleet to 30%.
Also from this year, the number of energy-saving and environmentally friendly buses should account for over 60% of its newly purchased bus fleet. It is also stipulated that the percentage of new energy buses should not be lower than 30% of its total new bus fleet.
Apart from the subsidies offered by the central government, new energy buses are also entitled to enjoy a one-time subsidies from Shanghai Municipal Government, depending on the size and energy efficiency of the bus model. In terms of pure electric bus, 10-meter and above electric buses will receive 350,000 RMB subsidies per unit, 8-10 meter electric bus 280,000 RMB, and 6-8 meter electric bus 210,000 RMB.
In addition, the city will offer 250,000 RMB to each unit of 10-meter and above plug-in hybrid buses (including distance enhancing bus model), 150,000 RMB to each unit of ultra-capacitor buses, 500,000 RMB to each unit of oil-electric hybrid buses, 550,000 RMB to each unit of double-energy-source rail-free buses and 300,000 RMB to each unit of LNG buses.
While in operation, new energy buses can receive various amounts of subsidies from the local government. For example, the electric bus can get 165,000 RMB each year, plug-in hybrid bus (including distance-enhancing bus model) 70,000 RMB each year, ultra-capacitor bus or double-energy-source rail-free bus 50,000 each year, oil-electric hybrid bus 30,000 RMB each year, and LNG bus 65,000 RMB each year.
To meet the newly added operating costs of new energy vehicles, Shanghai Municipal Government will also offer financial help in eight consecutive years. For the first operating year, the financial help will be offered in the form of purchasing subsidies. Starting from the second operating year, new energy buses with an average driving distance of 50,000 km and above (LNG buses 60,000 km and above) will be entitled to receive 100% financial help for the extra operating costs. For those vehicles with a driving distance less than the standards mentioned above, will also receive financial help in proportion to their driving distance.
