150 Electric Buses to Hit the Road in Qingdao, Shandong Province

www.chinabuses.org On March 7th, 2013, journalist learnt from bus station of Laixi City, Shandong Province, that the public bus charging center which took ¥50 million to invest, will see the construction work started in the first half of the year. More than 150 units of green luxury electric bus will be put into operation. After the oil-consumption buses be replaced by the electric buses, zero emission will be fully achieved.


‘In the future, all the buses from Laixi to Qingdao will be changed to electric buses.’ said the person in charge from Bus Station of Laixi City on yesterday morning. In the first half of the year, Laixi will make the first complete- electric and green passenger bus line. The electric charging center, with an investment of more than ¥50 million will see the construction started. Upon completion, 150 units of LNG-fuelled bus and pure electric buses will be put into use, operating on the first pure-electric intercity bus line from Qingdao to Laixi, which is the first of its kind in the country. Besides, a few more tourist lines will be developed travelling from Qingdao to Lake Laixi, Jiangshan Wetland and other places. By the time of World Leisure Games 2015, special transportation lines will be opened, along with it are battery-changing stations and LNG filling stations.


According to the introduction, after the charging and battery-changing station is finished in Laixi, 22% of energy could be saved for each new energy bus. More than 500 kg of emission could be reduced for each bus annually, saving around ten thousand cubic meters of gas, realizing zero emission. The electric bus could run as long as 500 km, and the life span of the battery is more than two years, which resulting in less costs. Also, it fit well with the bus. As it is planned, the buses operating on intercity lines and other lines in Laixi will be gradually replaced by electric buses.
