Wang Jian: Funding is key to China's school bus promotion

www.chinabuses.org: A shortage of funds, and not a lack of standards, is the key problem to be solved in promoting school buses in China, said Wang Jian, professor of Chongqing Transportation University and chief editor of China Bus and Coach at the 4th China Automotive Bluebook Forum held here on April 7 by Automotive Business.
One of the disputes on the China school bus implementation lies with school bus technical standards. The country should adopt long-nose school buses like those used in the U.S. and other developed countries, said industry analysts. Some even believe that only school buses as solid as armored cars can work.
According to Wang, the fund shortage is the important issue to be solved because students in many rural areas have no school buses to take due to lack of funds to purchase them by schools for their students, but have to crowd into horse wagons or microvans. The higher the standards, the higher the price of school buses, thus the more students will be blocked from enjoying school bus service.
