EGR Popular in Europe while SCR Dominated in China

09 September 2011

www.chinabuses.org: According to the report from the Britain bus media,  Ferris Holidays of Nantgawr has purchased two triaxial buses with EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) technology in U.K. The purchaser showed that the application of EGR is one of the reasons why then bought these buses and confirmed the benefits of zero Adblue on the operation of buses.

However, the most buses are equipped with SCR (selective catalyst reduction) systems in China. Zhang Weilin, senior engineer from Higer Bus said that, “It is certain to adopt SCR systems to comply with National Ⅳ, even Ⅴ and Ⅵ standard. Possibly the application of EGR systems is the mainstream for the trucks producers. As for Higer Bus, the buses exporting to Europe also have been mainly outfitted with SCR systems, except the special demand on EGR engines for some six-meter buses with front-mounted engines and imported Scania chassis.” Also, the related director in charge of relevant technology of Zhongtong Bus revealed that, “It is more practical to apply SCR systems in the actual conditions in China currently.”

It is known that the cost of SCR is almost 10,000 Yuan higher than EGR. EGR is advantageous in low purchasing cost as well as operation cost due to zero Adblue. But SCR is better in fuel economy.
