“During year of transition, Allison has landed new customers and maintained its brand promise while expanding worldwide operations,” CEO Lawrence E. Dewey says.

INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA, USA. – Allison Transmission, Inc., the world’s leading supplier of commercial duty fully automatic transmissions and hybrid propulsion systems, begins its second year as a stand-alone company committed to both global business growth and developing new products to meet the diverse needs of its customers.

“I’m extremely proud that Allison employees worldwide have demonstrated extraordinary dedication, expertise, and professionalism in maintaining our reputation as the global leader in automatic transmissions for commercial duty trucks and buses, military vehicles and hybrid propulsion systems since The Carlyle Group and Onex Corporation acquired Allison one year ago,” says Lawrence E. Dewey, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer.

“Throughout this year of transformation, Allison has maintained its brand promise of unrivalled Quality, reliability, durability, vocational value and Customer Service. And the company has remained focused on developing new and innovative products and expanding business around the world,” Dewey adds.

“We’ve landed new contracts with important customers FedEx Freight, Coca Cola, I.B. Hunt and Pepsi Bottling Group-Mexico,” Dewey says. “In Europe, second generation hybrid buses are already on the road in Bremen and in Hanover, Germany. What’s more, major European OEMs are expanding availability of CNG powered commercial vehicles with Allison. The Mercedes Benz Econic powered by a compressed natural gas engine is equipped with an Allison transmission, for example.”

In addition to North America and Europe, Allison continues to expand in Asia Pacific. While many of the trucks in these counties are currently equipped with manual transmission, vehicle owners are becoming increasingly aware that vehicles equipped with Allison Automatics are easier to drive, offer a greater degree of safety by allowing the driver to keep both hands on the wheel, are more productive and offer owners and operators superior fuel efficiency.

In the Asian bus market, Allison has been a major player for years. In fact, last month, at the Summer Olympics in Beijing, China, nearly 12,000 Allison-equipped buses delivered athletes and visitors to the many Olympic venues with outstanding reliability. Allison employee experts established a command center and brought in a support team, replacement parts, and manned a sophisticated logistics and communications program in support of the games.

In addition, Allison is pleased to have established a permanent presence in India, where the company has opened offices in Delhi and Chennai. India is an important market for Allison as it is the world’s fourth largest economy, and is the fifth largest commercial vehicle manufacturer in the world.

In Latin America, Allison’s results are also remarkable. In the last 12 months, overall sales have increased 15% in this region with key growth in both mining and refuse segments.

In these times of spiraling fuel costs and heightened attention on protecting the economy, Allison Transmission is a world leader. More than 1,100 GM-Allison hybrid buses are in service in 94 cities worldwide, from Washington, D.C., to Seattle in the States, and in Switzerland, Germany and Turkey to name a few locations. In addition, Allison transmissions are helping vehicle owners and operators cope with fuel bills by offering products with a unique combination of fuel economy and efficiency.

“I’m extremely proud of how far we’re come in the past year and am exited about the profitable future that lies ahead for Allison Transmission.” Dewey says. “It is a privilege to lead such a dynamic, dedicated group of colleagues, all of whom have made Allison Transmission the global leader in automatic transmission technology.”
