Light Coaches Can Brake Wear-Free with the Voith Magnetarder
27 September 2010
www.chinabuses.org: Voith Turbo presented the new Magnetarder at the IAA Commercial Vehicle Show. The new retarder stands out by its exceptional low weight and can be retrofitted in most light and mediumweight vehicles without any modifications to the driveline. In the midibus market, the Voith Magnetarder is already used as series-installed equipment at Anadolu Isuzu, Turkey, and at SOR in the Czech Republic.
The Voith Magnetarder operates with the world’s most powerful permanent magnets. Weighing only 39 kilograms, it is the lightest secondary retarder, braking vehicles in the 7.5 – 16 ton range comfortably and safely. It also convinces by excellent braking powers with a braking torque of up to 650 Nm. The Magnetarder backs up the service brake so efficiently, that up to 90 percent of all braking operates can be performed by this secondary unit. This is added by a gain in comfort owing to reduced gear-shifting movements and tendentially higher average speeds.
The Magnetarder runs directly on the propshaft, so that the shaft does not have to be shortened when the retarder is installed. The patented principle is universally applicable, easy to install and highly cost-effective. This makes the Magnetarder attractive both as original equipment and also for retrofits.
