Three Technology Giants Support Malaysian Bus Ticketing System

29 July 2008

Transport solutions provider AXCESS MyTicket Hub Sdn Bhd has marked the rollout of Malaysia’s only one-stop express bus ticketing system -- AXCESS EZBUS (EZBUS) -- signing agreements with technology partners Hewlett-Packard (HP), Microsoft and Telekom Malaysia (TM).

According to AXCESS, the EZBUS computerised 24x7 ticketing system streamlines the purchasing of express bus tickets by offering three key avenues – online, phone and strategically located outlets - at an additional convenience charge of just RM1 to the ticket price.

AXCESS executive director Salina Jaffar explained that the agreement -- witnessed by Minister of Entrepreneur and Co-operative Development, Dato’ Noh Bin Haji Omar -- signed with the three technology partners, marks AXCESS MyTicket Hub’s commitment to provide an integrated EZBUS ticketing system to the public with a strong technology backing from trusted partners.

Jaffar said: “Four years ago, this was just a pipe dream, four months ago we shared it with a selected few bus operators, today with the support of our technology partners we are ready to take EZBUS nationwide.”

With rising fuel prices, the use of public transportation is expected to increase, she added. “Each partner plays an essential role in ensuring that the public benefits from the convenience of buying express bus tickets and the bus operators have the necessary data and support to improve and increase their sales, in line with EZBUS’ tagline ‘Buy tickets any way you like’. ”

Public transport usage to rise

Minister Noh Bin Haji Omar agreed, “The increase in global fuel prices has affected us all, smart solutions like EZBUS will certainly help people save when travelling – as it cuts down the need to physically go to bus terminals to purchase tickets.”

Jaffar explained that another key attribute of EZBUS is that it allows anyone from anywhere in the world to purchase bus tickets online. Tourists planning to visit Malaysia can now plan their journey with ease. Taking its cue from the airline industry, where online ticketing has proven to be an indispensable tool, having a convenient ticketing system will encourage tourists to explore Malaysia by bus, allowing them to visit smaller towns to experience holistic Malaysian hospitality and culture.

To date, AXCESS MyTicket Hub invested RM10 million (US$3.06 million) for the system and has signed on with 14 bus operators and 18 higher learning institutions to have the EZBUS system installed in their respective ticketing centres.
