Golden Dragon First Batch of Autonomous Driving Buses in Mianyang, Sichuan
08 July 2024
Recently, experiencing autonomous driving buses has become a trendy thing in Mianyang, Sichuan. On June 28th, the first batch of 19 autonomous driving buses emerged from the Mianyang Innovation Center and smoothly set off on their respective trial operation routes, marking the official launch of the demonstration operation of Mianyang's first batch of autonomous vehicles. With a frequency of one bus every 15 minutes, the autonomous driving buses are available for free during the trial operation period. This novelty has quickly attracted the attention of the general public, who have flocked to try it out and share their experiences on social media, making riding the driverless bus the latest hot topic among Mianyang residents.

At this impressive unveiling, we once again saw a familiar figure: Golden Dragon's latest generation of autonomous driving bus, the "INSIGHT" No. 1. Just at the end of May, INSIGHT had started operating autonomous driving on-demand services in the Liangxi urban area of Wuxi. Less than a month later, INSIGHT appeared in the public eye again, truly deserving the title of the new generation of "internet-famous bus" for autonomous driving vehicles.
Wuxi Liangxi Autonomous Driving Bus in Operation
The INSIGHT No. 1 buses put into operation this time are 5.3 meters long and 2.2 meters wide, with a cool and fashionable appearance. They adopt a full-load-bearing design, with a low-entry step and plug-in doors. Compared to traditional vehicles, the INSIGHT No. 1 features an industry-leading fully autonomous driving design, with no steering wheel, accelerator, or brake pedal inside. Additionally, there are no rearview mirrors on the exterior of the vehicle; instead, they are replaced by sensors and positioning systems around the vehicle, which fuse and calculate data to support autonomous driving. Lane changes, braking, yielding to pedestrians, and maintaining a safe distance from the vehicle ahead... Based on a complete set of hardware smart devices and advanced backend algorithms, the L4-level autonomous bus provides a stable and intelligent overall experience during operation. The vehicle is equipped with the WeRide autonomous driving system, including a 64-line LiDAR, blind spot LiDAR, millimeter-wave radar, ultrasonic radar, high-definition cameras, and other sensing equipment, capable of detecting road conditions up to 200 meters away. Mianyang citizens were amazed by this intelligent travel experience and eagerly invited friends to come and try it out.

It is reported that a total of 4 trial operation routes with 54 stops have been planned for this demonstration operation test, including "industry routes" connecting industrial parks and "convenience routes" connecting business districts and communities. Meanwhile, all 19 driverless buses are equipped with safety personnel who hold A2 or higher driving licenses and have over 10 years of driving experience. Currently, the route from Shangma Story Commercial Street to the Robot Industrial Park and the Chuangye Avenue route have been opened; the business district route and community route are expected to be opened on July 20th.
The introduction of driverless buses in Mianyang is another expansion of Golden Dragon's autonomous driving portfolio and a testament to its position as an industry benchmark in the field of intelligent driving. Currently, Golden Dargon has delivered nearly 500 autonomous driving vehicles, which are used in a series of scenarios such as subway feeder lines, micro-circulation buses, expressway buses, park commuting and shuttle services, and scenic spot sightseeing. With actual operating mileage exceeding 10 million kilometers, they have basically achieved normalized operational capability. In the future, Golden Dragon will continue to adhere to technology empowerment, lead the new era of intelligent travel, and promote the early realization of a better and smarter travel experience.
