Since the start of April, FAW Wuxi Diesel Engine Works (FAW Xichai for short) has been running in full gear thanks to the rising demand for its products. In the first quarter of this year, it has successfully kept its sales volume at the same level of 2008 even though the economic slump has shrunk demands in many areas.

Before the financial crisis originated from the US spread to the real economy around the world, FAW Xichai adopted more flexible marketing strategies. After the central government rolled out “Vehicle Going to Rural Area” policy, it swiftly readjusted its production plan and put more focus on four cylinder diesel engines used particularly for low-speed vehicles and light-duty vehicles. Thanks to its quick move, it sold over 40,000 units of four-cylinder diesel engines in the first three months, a dramatic increase compared with that of the same period last year.

In addition, the company has been taking active measures to explore new customers in the public transport system in Hengyang and Dongguan while strengthening its hold of former markets like Nanjing and Ningbo. 

Currently, Xichai has acquired the internationally advanced technologies for manufacturing diesel engines. With its own characteristics in self-innovation and R&D, it is poised to grow even stronger after this round of industrial reshuffle amid the economic downturn.
