According to Ford reported that Ford Motor Company reached a sales volume of about 240,900 vehicles in the Chinese market during the first nine months of 2008, up 7% year-on-year. Chang'an Ford Automobile Corporation Ltd., Ford's Chinese passenger car venture, had a sales volume of 159,833 vehicles, a slight rise compared with 150,521 in the period of last year. Jiangling Motors Co., Ltd, Ford's Chinese commercial vehicle venture, took a sales volume of 75,496 vehicles including 21,083 Transit vans with an 11% rise year on year.
The slow growth in the Chinese auto market in the quarter was caused by China's domestic factors and the widespread fallout from the financial crisis around the world, believed Robert Graziano, president and chief executive officer of Ford Motor (China) Ltd.
