BYD Electric Bus Arrives in Germany for Operation
13 August 2020
On August 7, BYD officially handed over a 12-meter electric bus to Bogestra, a bus operator in Germany, marking a new milestone in BYD’s global expansion.
Mayors from Gelsenkirchen and Bochum, together with Jörg Filter, CEO of Bogestra and representatives from BYD Europe witnessed the historical moment.
According to BYD, it won the order in September last year with 22 units BYD electric buses, all of which are scheduled to arrive in Germany by October this year. With two doors, the electric bus is able to load 80 passengers at most and drive over 200 km continuously after being fully recharged.
At the handover ceremony, Frank Baranowski, mayor of Gelsenkirchen said the arrival of BYD electric buses would help his city cut carbon emissions enormously. “By October, 10% of Bogestra’s bus fleet will be powered by electricity”, added Frank. Thomas Eiskirch, mayor of Bochum echoed Frank’s view, saying BYD electric buses will provide safer, greener and more comfortable travel services for local citizens.
He Yipeng, General Manager of BYD Europe, pointed out that BYD would continue to work closely with bus operators in Europe to provide passengers with zero-emission travel solutions.
