15 April 2009
China exported 61,000 automobiles in the first quarter of 2009, indicating a plunge of 62.06% year on year, according to statistics unveiled by the Chinese Auto Industry Association.
Auto exports in the first two months of 2009 fell 62.87% from a year earlier to 41,900 units, while export revenue in the same period declined 49.83% year on year to US$708 million. Exports of sedans suffered the sharpest decline, falling 71.03% to 11,300 units.
Zhu Yiping, the assistant secretary-general of the association, said the sharp fall is a big blow to China's auto industry, and that the relevant government department should focus attention on promoting the auto industry's overseas development.
