Currently, hydrogen is viewed as the most environmentally friendly fuel. To further sharpen its competitiveness in the global bus manufacturing industry, Wuzhoulong recently set up its own Fuel Cell Research Institute, the first of its kind in the industry.

As early as 2011 when the 26th World Universitade Games was held in Shenzhen, 1,511 units new energy buses, including 63 units fuel cell buses, all made by Wuzhoulong, started their service in the city.

In June 2017, Wuzhoulong officially rolled out F1 Future series fuel cell vehicle at Shenzhen New Energy Bus Exhibition. According to the bus maker, its new fuel cell buses with higher reliability and higher safety standards will be put into service in 2018.

According to Wu Haibin, Chief Technological Director of Wuzhoulong, the company’s fuel cells are highly competitive in the following three areas.

1) They are highly energy efficient. Without any combustion and the constraint of heat circulation, fuel cells operate at a much lower temperature. Thus, they achieve a higher energy efficiency than internal combustion engines.

2) Hydrogen can be refilled in a very quick manner. Usually, it takes about three to five minutes to get a refill of hydrogen. Its energy density is much higher than gasoline or lithium batteries.

3) Fuel cells are particularly environmentally friendly with 90% of their spare parts recyclable.(www.chinabuses.org)
