Pengxiang and Allison Transmission Deliver Automatic Mining Trucks in Thailand

www.chinabuses.org: Featuring advantages like uninterrupted power, smooth braking, easy maneuverability and low maintenance costs, Allison-equipped Pengxiang PX40 ATCA2 automatic mining dump trucks are considered the best in Saraburi Province, Thailand. With fleet operational efficiency improved and high product recognition among users and OEMs, operation of Allison 4500ORS automatic transmissions in the limestone mine has proven this combination to be one of the industry’s best configurations.

Saraburi is an important center of cement production in Thailand, centrally positioned amongst many mines and cement plants. Phatub needed mining dump trucks capable of transporting 40 tons of limestone ore across rugged, winding and steep roadways to a processing site. Such conditions demanded strong power for continuous gradeability and precision maneuverability.

Pengxiang and Thai technicians conducted a joint analysis of mine conditions, which resulted in the configuration of an FAW Wuxi 420hp engine with a maximum output torque of 1,900 Newton-meters and an Allison 4500ORS fully automatic six-speed transmission. Designed to produce up to 244.5 kilonewtons of traction on grades as steep as 41.4 percent, the new configuration fully satisfied requirements for the heavy-haul mining dump trucks, improving efficiency and productivity.

According to Li Hailiang, mining factory director at Pengxiang, Allison’s Continuous Power Technology™ provides uninterrupted power for trucks during shifting and acceleration. “Additionally, when heavily-loaded trucks go downhill, the integrated hydraulic retarder ensures smooth vehicle deceleration, helping to avoid brake failure,” he said.

In addition to safety advantages, effective retarding also reduces driveline breakdowns. “The application of a retarder to reduce heat transferred from the braking drum to the wheels extends the life of tires and the driveline. Downtime and maintenance costs for automatic vehicles are lower than for manuals on average,” said Chaveng Sakarin, powertrain division manager for Anglo-Thai Co.

Since 2012, Chinese OEMs such as Pengxiang have been gradually entering the Thai market. Committing to excellent after-sale service is a critical element for success. As an Allison Authorized Dealer, Anglo-Thai Co. delivers seamless service support, offering timely and reliable after-sales service and technical support so that Pengxiang’s service stations can better serve their Thai customers.

“Allison Transmission is the world’s largest manufacturer of automatic transmissions for medium- and heavy-duty commercial vehicles and boasts advanced technology, reliable quality and convenient service. These are the main reasons we have always chosen Allison,” said Hailiang.
