www.chinabuses.org:At the Busworld Europe 2011 in Kortrijk, Belgium, ZF Friedrichshafen AG presents the new low-floor portal axle AV 133. The new axle generation will be introduced in two stages – to be implemented by 2014. The first implementation stage will be completed by the end of 2011. During 2014, the second stage will take place in close cooperation with the customers.

ZF Launches Second Generation Low-floor Bus Axle AV 133

"The second stage focuses on the further improvement of efficiency, noise level and weight", says Andreas Moser, Vice President of CV Axle Systems in the Commercial Vehicle Division of ZF. "Only after this has been successfully completed will the writing AV 133 be stamped on the type plates." Despite its enhanced performance characteristics, the new AV 133 low-floor portal axle has been designed all through to save weight. This means that ZF makes a decisive contribution to compensate for the additional weight of the Euro 6 driveline. At the same time, the new AV 133 facilitates heavy-weight applications – such as double-articulated buses – because it is designed to withstand higher torques. This is achieved by specifically reinforcing the gearing and bearings as well as the differential. Together with the wide ratio range, the new AV 133 also covers the new alternative driveline designs such as trolley / electric and hybrid drives. To this end, the new axle can easily be integrated into existing vehicle platforms because it has the same axle connection points as the current model AV 132. The predecessor axle's advantages in terms of low-floor capability remain, though. So the new AV 133 also makes minimal floor heights possible, which considerably increase passenger comfort by doing without steps and platforms. Especially the shorter changeover times because of the stepless entry and exit pay off for the public transport authority. The new AV 133's design reduces the operating costs with its even lower service complexity and further measures to increase efficiency.
