Zero-Emission Auto Industrialization in Sight
08 March 2009
WAN Gang, Minister of Ministry of Science and Technology in China reveals to the public during a panel discussion that China is planning to fully realize the industrialization of vehicles with zero-emission within 4-6 years.
The minister also indicates that the development of energy-saving and new energy vehicles will be the focal points of the auto industry’s revitalization plan.
In face of the increasing energy shortage woes and mounting environmental protection pressure, the major automakers around the world have all put the development of new energy vehicles high on their agenda so as to sharpen their competitiveness and maintain sustainable growth. Currently, China is in the process of fulfilling the industrialization of low-emission vehicles by carrying out the Revitalization Plan of Auto Industry in 6-8 years. After this, China is planning to spend another 4-6 years to fully realize the industrialization of vehicles with zero-emission.
Currently, the new-energy powered vehicles are chiefly concentrated in bus & coach sector. Given that China boasts a huge production capacity for buses, there is still room for further reduction of bus prices.
