Youngman Pure Electric Bus Will Officially Get into US Market

07 April 2015

www.chinabuses.org: On Mar. 31, Youngman held a fruitful discussion with Indiana State Department of Commerce for introducing Youngman electric buses to the US market. Victor P. Smith, Director of Indiana State Department of Commerce, Jin Yonghui, Director of Zhejiang Provincial Foreign Affairs Office, Lu Guohao, Deputy Director, Pang Qingnian, President of Youngman Automotive Group, and Chen Chaoliang, Vice President of Youngman attended the meeting.

After the initial consultations and negotiations, Victor P. Smith spoke highly of Youngman’s electric bus and its state-of-art driveline. Currently, the two parties have already reached an agreement for introducing the first Youngman “Future Star” electric bus demonstration line in Napolis, the state capital of Indiana.

In 2004, Youngman built China’s first electric bus route in Beijing when the capital was preparing for 2008 Olympic Games. In 2011, Youngman electric bus fleet successfully finished its one year trial operation in Kowloon. In 2014, Youngman successfully won the bid for providing electric buses to Hong Kong-based Kowloon Bus Company thanks to their initial highly smooth and stable performances. On Feb. 12, 2015, the very first e-BRT electric bus route launched by Youngman went into official operation in Jinhua city, Zhejiang. So far, the bus maker has developed internationally advanced technologies in electric motors, batteries and electric control systems.

Adopting Youngman’s eighth generation monocoque body structure, “Future Star”series electric bus boasts much higher safety standards. Its low floor access and wide aisle ensure faster passenger flow. With lighter body weight and more spacious interior space, the eco-friendly bus is capable of loading 99 passengers. What’s more, its powerful driveline and big torque electric motor provide sufficient power when the vehicle is speeding up or on a uphill road. While it is on a downward slope or on the braking mode, the bus can efficiently restore extra energy with an energy storage efficiency as high as 30%.

In terms of its operating mode, the bus will take full advantage of the bus terminals to realize fast recharging to meet the vehicle’s continuous operation demand. Different batteries are equipped on buses according to the varied operation conditions of the bus routes. In addition, the bus will be fully recharged at night when electricity consumption is at the lowest level and ready for operation in the day time.

When it comes to the recharging facilities, the bus has realized high level of automation. Bus drivers even do not need to get off the vehicle and by just pressing the button for recharging, they can connect the pantograph with the bus recharger, which only covers an area of 1.5 square meters. The bus recharger, worth 400,000 RMB per set, can be easily built at bus terminals and is way more competitive in price when compared with other normal recharging facilities, which may cost as high as 200 million RMB.

In addition, Youngman has independently developed nano-carbon lithium batteries, which are non-inflammable and non-explosive. Besides their high reliability, the batteries are highly environmentally friendly. With high efficiency in recharging, the batteries boast a long life expectancy of guaranteed ten years.

Compared with other domestic plug-in electric buses with a life-cycle of 10 years, Youngman can save operating costs for about 5.84 million RMB. In the USA, a 12-meter diesel or gas powered bus usually costs 1.2-1.4 USD for fuel per mile. In comparison, Youngman 12-meter electric bus only costs 0.15-0.2 USD, which is significantly lower than a normal bus.

So far, Youngman has made a number of breakthroughs in the field of electric buses. With affordable and highly reliable electric bus products, Youngman has not only won recognition from a number of domestic customers, but also has made big splashes in the new energy market in the USA.
