China-made Trolley Bus Arrived in Africa

www.chinabuses.org: On Aug. 26, a batch of brand new trolley buses with low-floor access went off production line in Changchun, Jilin Province. The trolley bus is developed by China CNR Corporation Limited. It is revealed that the trolley buses are going to be shipped to Ethiopia, known as the roof of African continent. When in operation in Ethiopia and soutern Sahara desert, the trolley bus will become the first of its kind in the region, becoming the Tram on the Plateau.
With its floor only less than 35 centimeters to the ground, the trolley bus has made it easier for passengers to get on and off. Composed of three modules, the trolley bus can reach a maximum speed of 70 km/h. The trolley bus is going to start operation in Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia and also the headquarters of UN Economic Commission for African and African Union.
After the arrival of the trolley bus in Africa, it is believed that they will surely produce a ripple effect in the local market for highly advanced machinery products made in China. According to Liu Gang, the director of Overseas Dept. No. 2 Export Branch, "our market research indicates that currently, a number of African nations, including Kenya, Congo, Zimbabwe, Egypt, Nigeria, etc. all have plans to build their own urban rail transit system. Our export of trolley buses to Ethiopia will definitely open more opportunities for us to the huge African markets."
