18 August 2014
www.chinabuses.org: Against the backdrop that the domestic commercial vehicle market is slowing down, BAIC Foton has sped up its pace in overseas expansion. On the Foton-Daimler Open Day, it is learnt that Foton's first wholly-owned overseas factory will kick off its construction at the end of this year. According to the company, it is now also planning to build factories in its four strategic overseas markets, including Brazil, Mexico, Russia and Indonesia.
Along with its rising sales volume in the overseas market, Foton is determined to upgrade its production bases in the foreign countries. The five major factories now still under planning will be fully financed by Foton with comprehensive stamping, welding, painting and assembly lines. In doing so, the company is hoping to explore its strategic markets with huge demand for commercial vehicles with localized production.
According to Zhao Jingguang, the spokesman for BAIC Foton, "The rising concerns for environment protection mean the reshuffle of the market. Those technologically competitive enterprises will likely to gain more market presence while those with outdated technologies are probably going to be wiped out completely." On the back of its state-of-art environmentally friendly engine technologies and its advanced R&D capabilities in clean energy powered vehicles, Foton is now ready for more business opportunities in its overseas market. By 2015, the company in cooperation with Cummins are expected to roll out their new generation of engines in line with EURO VI Emission Standards. In addition, Foton-Daimler heavy engine factory will soon finish its construction and start operation. It is revealed that its high-end engines are not only going to meet the domestic demand, but also to be exported to the overseas market.
