www.chinabuses.org: On May 27, a grand ceremony was held on Eagle Square, Abuja, the capital of Nigeria, to celebrate the official operation of 100 units of buses made by Chinese bus manufacturers. Over 1,000 officals from various fields, including Madi Sanbo, Vice President of Nigeria, Barla, Chief Director of Federal Capital Area, and Duke, Minister of Culture, attended the ceremony.

In a speech made by Vice President of Nigeria, Madi Sanbo pointed out that the nation has been giving its priorities to improving public transport facilities. Through diversified investment channels such as pooling funds from both public and private sectors, it is gradually upgrading its nationwide transport system. The Vice President also promised that the nation will speed up the construction of public transport system in its capital area as the city represents a window for the nation to the outside world.

It is revealed that the nation's capital area has forbidden the operation of any passenger loading motorcycles and minibuses since Jun. 2013. Barla, Chief Director of Federal Capital Area pointed out the governemtn's pressing task is to solve public transport problem for the local working class. As a part of the move to provide better transport solutions, the area has imported the first batch of 100 buses from China. The director also reveals that the area is planning to import 200 units of buses from China in the next three years to further upgrade its public transport system.

In addition, Aony Yagi, General Manager of Abuja Urban Public Transport Company told our reporter that currently the city has 392 units of buses, most of which are too old to work properly. The operation of the first batch of new buses from China will greatly ease the public transport pressure and the local traffic in the capital area.
