In the first half of 2012, Weichai launched new-energy "WN20" powertrain, which made it optional for the bus to be equipped with hybrid 4-12L Nation IV or V engines and 5-16 auto transmissions. The powertrain used in 10-12 city buses can save 30% of the fuel.

According to the accreditation of national authoritative testing department, each city bus equipped with Weichai new-energy powertrain, under the condition of GB/T19754-2005 typical public transit in the city, is able to reduce 80 tons of CO2 and save 30% of the fuel, assuming it runs 0.4 million km within eight years.
