Toyota Coaster Bus Sales down, China-made Bus up in China

www.chinabuses.org: Coaster Coach, the well known luxurious coach product, is in the leading place in Chinese 7-meter luxurious coach segment market. It has been 23 years past since Coaster coach enter into China market, which has had great effect on the design and manufacturing of Chinese medium bus. However, in recent two years, Coaster coach is not so much popular as before, what may be the reason result in this situation?
After the event of Diaoyu Island happening in 2012, the sales of the Coaster Coach were decreasing. Though some good policies have been promoted, such as lower the price of the Coaster Coach, the sales performance has not been improved.
It is learned that, in Jan.-Nov. 2012, sales of all kinds of Coaster Coaches were 11,773 units, down 12.1 percent over Jan. .-Nov. 2011 (13,393 units). One insider said that though the sale volumes decreased, the profit of each unit of Coaster Coach is still very high. So it doesn’t only depend on the sale volume of Coaster Coach to achieve the good profit.
At present, all China medium bus brands are now competing with Coaster Coach. It is learned that the mainstream bus builders are NAVECO, SAIC MAXUS, JAC Sunray and Dongfeng Yufeng etc are belong to European light buses. Some similar Coaster Coach products have been developed by some China bus builders, such as Golden Dragon, JAC and Jinbei Big HIACE etc. Especially the Golden Dragon Coaster Coach and JAC BEST Coach, these two models have great impact on the sales of Coaster Coach in China.

Besides, it is equipped with Cummins ISF 2.8 L engine, ZF Gearbox, former independent suspension with the maximum power 110 KW. The emissions of it could reach national Ⅳ standard, which mainly for the foreign markets.

Its maximum power could reach 20% higher than like products and it has clear advantages in fuel economy and environmental emissions. In the four years, the sales volumes of JAC “BEST” increased from 100 units to over 400 units in 2011.

China domestic self-develop medium bus products have almost same performance in the controllability, braking performance, comfort and manufacturing craft of the buses. Besides, the prices of them are lower than the Coaster Coach. However, there are still some differences such as the powering system etc. that China domestic self-develop medium bus builders still have to improve the products and catch up Coaster Coach.
