22 March 2013
www.chinabuses.org: On March 13th, a double-decker sleeper coach has fallen from a Yangtze bridge in Hubei province’s Jingzhou City. 14 people are reported to have been killed. The coach was traveling to Enshi City from Wuhan City. It crashed through the bridge barrier as it tried to veer away from a motorcycle and fell onto grassland.
It is already one year since Industry and Information Technology released suspending the China bus builders to declare the new sleeper coach products. And now, in current China bus market, the quantities of the sleeper buses are decreasing a lot, which are replaced by Semi-lying coaches.
The sleeper coaches are now gradually delisting according to the government plan in China different public transportation companies. For example, the biggest public transportation company-Jiaoyun Bus Transportation Group now have 779 units of coaches in its fleet, but only 2 unit of sleepers coaches.
According to the statistics, there are more than 37,000 sleeper coaches into operation in China. The number will be more after March 1st. According to the service life of one coach, which is 8 years, so in 3-5 years later, the big vacancy market of the sleeper coaches that may be RMB 20 billion will be a big piece of cake for many coach builders.
