Shanghai May Introduce Policies Subsidizing NEVs Purchase in 2013

12 November 2012

www.chinabuses.org: Shanghai's government has sent a draft of its new policy to grant subsides for new energy vehicle purchases to the National Development and Reform Commission, Shanghai Securities News reported today. The policy may be implemented as early as next year.

The city has also considered introducing policies that allow new energy vehicle owners to register for license plates for free. An official from Shanghai's municipal government stated that, although the policy is regional, it will affect the entire country's new energy vehicle industry.

Shanghai is not the only city aiming to boost new energy vehicle usage among its citizens. Several other cities are considering implementing similar 'green-friendly' policies. Earlier this week, Jilin City officials announced their intent to establish a new energy vehicle industrial park in the city. Guangdong officials have also mentioned plans to encourage greater new energy vehicle use in the province, with their stated goal to increase the number of new energy vehicles to 50,000.

Chinese manufacturers have managed to sell a total of 6,982 new energy automobiles over the first nine months of the year, with 3,009 of those purchases being of pure electric vehicles.
