Dunlop Launches New Tire for Citybuses

20 November 2008

Dunlop, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of commercial vehicle tires, is launching the Dunlop SP372 City. This is a new steer and all position tire for municipal vehicles such as city buses and other vehicles that operate in tough urban environments. Kerbing, stop-start conditions and requirements for low noise and comfort are all important factors in the development of this all seasons tire for municipal use. A high level of traction and short stopping distances on wet roads are further benefits that it offers.

The new Dunlop SP372 City tire gives exceptionally high mileage and has a robust construction with reinforced sidewalls for enhanced durability. This means long service life. The new tread pattern features specific, deep blading for improved wet braking and traction as well as all season usage capability. The compound was specifically developed for its abrasion-resistance, which combined with the other features means low noise levels, an even wear pattern and improved comfort.

The tire is designed for all season use and carries M+S markings. The SP372 City is fully retreadable and regroovable. The features of the Dunlop SP372 include a wide tread with five ribs, which give the benefits of high mileage, excellent handling and low noise. Its tread’s edge and Flexomatic blading enhance wet and snow performance while providing even wear for high mileage. A non-intrusive shoulder form and sidewall-reinforcement ensure damage resistance, particularly from kerbing. This is the first ‘Second Generation’ Dunlop tire to be produced for municipal vehicles. In comparison with its predecessor, the SP741 City, the spider chart shows the areas of improvement offered by the SP372. The largest improvements are in the wear-related areas with wear evenness 15% better, mileage 10% improved and scuff resistance approximately 5% better. Wet braking is also significantly improved. Noise is maintained at the already low level achieved by the SP741. When used as a steer tire, the recommended drive tire to complement the SP372 City is the Dunlop SP531 City, which is specifically designed for drive axle use on municipal vehicles, in operations where good traction is required The Dunlop SP372 City is initially available in size 275/70R22.5 148/145 J (152/148 E). A 295/80R22.5 152/148 J (154/150 E) will be introduced in spring 2009.
