Garbage Trucks of Rio de Janeiro Are Equipped with Fully-automatic Gearbox of Allison

06 September 2011

www.chinabuses.org: COMLURB (a garbage collection company) is responsible for the garbage collection in Rio de Janeiro. One standard in the bidding document says each of the new trucks must be equipped with a fully-automatic gearbox. The decision is made to raise productivity and reduce maintenance cost and operating noise.

The first batch of VW trucks equipped with Allison fully-automatic gearboxes were sent to two local enterprises-Ouro Verde and Julio Sim?es (Stralu). Mayor of Rio de Janeiro Eduardo Paes watched the delivery of 59 units of trucks with VW 17.25E Worker gearboxes and he said happily “drivers don’t have to shift gears.”

COMLURB purchases trucks with fully-automatic gearboxes for obvious reasons. If an engine works at a low speed, the garbage compression will be more quite and use ratio will be higher. Without 4000 gear shifting, drivers will be more comfortable and much safer.

A professional of COMLURB said the most important advantage of the new truck was its automatic compression system which was used from last year. The company adopted the technology of fully-automatic gearbox from 2009 to reduce noise and 59 units of garbage trucks were replaced for VW Worker trucks to reduce work stress of drivers.

“if fact, most of the garbage trucks in Rio de Janeiro are equipped with Allison fully-automatic gearboxes, which means more customers are apt to choose proper technology according to overall values.” Director of Allison in South America Evaldo Oliveira said, “we believe all the garbage trucks and other commercial vehicles in Brazil, even entire South America will change from manual to automatic gearboxes.”

Rogério Gil Costa of VW Company said “Maintenance cost is reduced by using VW 17.250E Worker trucks for the gearbox may protect dynamic spare parts from excessive pressure. In addition, the gearbox makes safer operation, comfortable driving and noise reduction as well. Furthermore the gearbox increases overall productivity.”

Allison Gearbox Company, VW Company and COMLURB cooperated for another campaign themed by “Quieter City Makes World Amazing”to disseminate and celebrate the use of VW trucks with Allison fully-automatic gearboxes in Rio de Janeiro. The new technology increased the efficiency of garbage collection the same as other cities. Renato Sorriso, an icon of Brasilia Carnival, was invited to this campaign.
