New Rule of EC about Auto Tires
08 August 2011
www.chinabuses.org: Recently EC issued a new labeling rule-EC1222/2009. From November 1st, 2012, tires of sedans, light trucks, trucks and public buses sold in EU must be labeled, indicating the levels of fuel efficiency, rolling noise and wet grip. Seven levels for fuel efficiency were from A to G, six levels for wet grip were from A to F and three levels for rolling noise were: N≤LV-3, LV-3LV, marking in black color. The goal was to decrease 20% of energy consumption in 2020.
These years EU raises the requirements for safety and environment protection of imported tires. This rule is another strict limitation after the REACH rule about the quantity of PAH in tires. At present EU has become an important market for our tires. Taking Jiangsu for example, as an important base of tire production, Jiangsu ranks No.2 in tire export and in 2010, tires exported to EU from Jiangsu accounted for 26.9% of total export volumes, ranking No.1. Therefore, a series of rules will influence the export of our tires.
Inspection department suggests that: 1. tire enterprises should pay high attention to and study the new rules, perfect quality control system and inspection platform and improve the technologies; in the meantime, speed up overseas market development, especially ASEAN, India and FTA countries to lower the over-centralized risk; 2. inspection department should focus on REACH rules and new labeling rules to provide technical services for tire enterprises; 3. the standard setting departments should follow the implementation of REACH rules and new labeling rules and set similar rules to improve the safety and international competitiveness of our tires.
