TM4 Launches New Drivetrain for Electric Vehicles
22 July 2011
www.chinabuses.org: The Canadian company TM4, a supplier of electric powertrains, recently unveiled a new 200kW electric drivetrain. Soon, the company will start to supply its customers with new high-power motors and power electronics, using technology like a patented permanent magnet motor design and isolated gate transistors (IGBT) technology to deliver some of the industry’s highest specific power and torque densities.
This system will serve the high-performance automotive and commercial vehicle segments. When compared to conventional technology such as induction motors, this new powertrain is half the weight. In fact, with a motor power density that exceeds the US Department of Energy targets for 2020 by more than 150%, it will be powerful enough to propel heavy duty electric buses and trucks, yet compact enough to be integrated in a smaller commercial vehicle, or a high performance sport car.
The TM4 MOTIVE is comprised of several scalable powertrain systems with peak powers ranging from 55-400kW, thus covering the full range of personal and commercial vehicle segments, and ready for volume production within TM4’s 1,000m² manufacturing facilities.
