Spheros Secures Contract from South Korea

www.chinabuses.org: Gilching/South Korea, June 2011 German bus climate specialist Spheros has been awarded a contract by South Korean bus manufacturer DAEWOO for the supply of 150 new Twister PowerCooler type air conditioners. The units are to be installed in natural gas-powered DAEWOO city buses destined for Bangladesh.

The Twister rooftop air conditioner – specially conceived for Asian markets and featuring a high degree of functionality, reliability coupled with competitive procurement and operating costs – is a completely new addition to the Spheros product range. Since January 2011 the Twister has been in series production at the company’s own plant in Yangzhou/China. The 150 units will be delivered from here to DAEWOO in South Korea, where they will be installed in the BS 106 standard city bus. The buses are to be delivered to the final customers BRTC (Bangladesh Road Corporation) in Dhaka.

Pure functionality
The new Twister offers numerous advantages for the customer, pure functionality and the highest degree of reliability of components developed on site in cooperation with German Engineering according to Spheros safety standards. The air conditioner boasts an extremely high cooling capacity with low operating costs. At temperatures of up to 60?C the so-called PowerCooling ensures unbeatably fast and uniform cooling of the vehicle interior. The low liquefaction pressure enables fuel consumption to be reduced and the life cycle extended. Further customer benefits are to be found in the low weight of 187 kg (relieves the rear axle and creates scope for new safety and emission standards) and in dimensions of 3480 x 1700 x 209 mm, which makes the unit suitable for hybrid und natural gas-powered buses as well.
“The technical concept of the rugged and simple Twister harmonises optimally with the vehicle concept and conditions of use in Bangladesh. A decisive factor for awarding the contract was also the global after-sales presence of Spheros,” explains K. S. Lee, General Manager of BOA Co. DAEWOO can rely on the support of a workshop team in all matters of maintenance, repair and service of the efficient air conditioner. Thanks to the fold-up side flaps, this is extremely simple, safe and fast.
For Spheros and BOA Co. Ltd. the Bangladesh order is the first in a series of export projects in which DAEWOO can call on the technical expertise and global experience of Spheros in bus air conditioning.
