08 March 2011
www.chinabuses.org: In the afternoon of 6 March 2011, the first electric city buses formally showed in Zhongshan City and 13 other new buses will be delivered in succession. The charging station is under construction and will possibly start before the end of this month. Guo Yang, deputy general manager of Zhongshan City Public Transport Company revealed that it was possible that the first electric bus route will be open at the end of this month.
These 10.5-meter city buses are produced by Foton AUV New Energy Bus and it is predicted that one bus runs 280 kilometers each day on this route (2.5-3 hours’ charging afford to the driving range of about 150 kilometers). Each electric bus only takes 70kwh for 100 kilometers and the operation cost is lower than that of diesel city buses and LNG city buses.
It is known that there will be more than 200 electric vehicles to be operated in Zhongshan, including 50 city buses from 2010 to 2012. Guo Yang said, “We will apply 16 electric city buses in future and will gradually increase such buses.”
