Great Wall Says Fiat Claim Dismissed by China Court
28 July 2008
Great Wall Motor Co Ltd (2333.HK: Quote, Profile, Research) said late on Sunday a Chinese court had dismissed a claim by Fiat Auto S.P.A. (FIA.MI: Quote, Profile, Research) alleging infringement of Fiat's patent by the Chinese car maker.
The Shijiazhuang Intermediate People's Court had dismissed the claim by Fiat, which alleged Great Wall's GWPeri model was an infringement of its patent, and ordered Fiat to pay the court fees in the amount of 8,800 yuan ($1,291), Great Wall said.
The Chinese car maker said it accepted the judgement and did not anticipate it would cause any material adverse effect on the company. It gave no further details.
Great Wall said last week that Fiat had filed its claim in a Chinese court in June last year but that no judgement had yet been reached.
The Chinese car maker also said it did not anticipate an Italian court order barring it from selling its GWPeri compact car in the European union would have a substantial impact on its operations, adding that it was preparing documents for an appeal.
