English.chinabuses.com: In the summer of 1990, after graduating from Jilin University of Technology, DONG Xiaokun, a young man majoring in automobile engineering, was dispatched to work in a bus manufacturing company. Back then, China’s bus industry is still dominated by a handful of state-owned enterprises. Due to a lack of competition in the market, the bus builders then never thought about self-innovation.

In late 1990s, China’s bus building industry experienced a strong wave of cooperation with foreign bus giants. Xi’an Silver Bus, Yaxing Benz and Guilin Daewoo are a few examples. The partnership with overseas companies has later become a real eye-opener to China’s bus builders. Through visiting foreign bus manufacturing facilities and receiving related technical trainings, a large number of bus technicians have become acquainted with the state-of-art bus building technologies.

Since 2004, a group of home-grown bus builders have become the pillars of China’s bus building industry. While making staggering achievements, these companies have not been resting in ease. Instead, they have been constantly in pursuit of new technologies to strengthen their competitiveness so as to play in the international market. Currently, not discouraged by the bleak market landscape, Chinese bus builders is working even harder to seek transformation in a new round of explosive development of China’s bus building industry.
