Mixed Reactions towards China’s Bus Sales in June
10 July 2009
English.chinabuses.com: according to some initial statistics, China exported over 800 units of buses & coaches in June. Good performers include Xiamen Kinglong, Zhengzhou Yutong and Yangzhou Yaxing. Some insiders believe the sector may well on its way to recover.
Although the number of bus orders was on the rise, it still fell short of the same period last year. In addition, despite of a handful of well performing companies, the majority of enterprises involved in bus & coach building industry continued facing anemic sales business. Given this, some professionals in this sector hold a different view, believing that it will still take some time before the industry shows any encouraging signs.
Amid the mixed reactions towards the bus sales in June, China’s bus export market presented four new characteristics. First, bus builders started to shift more attention to some small market, like Vietnam and Kuwait. Second, each order became smaller compared with those in the previous years. Third, domestic hybrid buses started making their way to the overseas market. For example, Xiamen Kinglong’s hybrid bus hit the road in Singapore; Ankai hybrid bus went to California and Youngman’s luxury double-decker started service in Dubai. Fourth, the profit margin for bus builders went down. The continued rising Yuan has posed a serious challenge to bus exporters. Some companies have to accept the thin profit margin in order to retain overseas customers.
