15 June 2009
In response to the call for “Bus First” from the government, Xi’an, a well known tourist city and the provincial capital of Shaanxi spent lavishly on bus procurement in recent years. In order to provide more conveniences to the local citizens and boost the city’s urban image, Xi’an Municipal Government Procurement Center announced its decision to invite public biddings for its purchase of 185 units of buses, which soon aroused great attention from bus builders across the nation.

Xi’an Public Transport Corp., a bus operator in the city, later disclosed that it plans to buy 170 units of 10-meter city buses, 10 units of 12-meter air-conditioned city buses, and 5 units of 8-meter air-conditioned tourist midi buses.
The procurement, budgeted at about RMB 360 million (about USD 52,6716 million), soon attracted a host of bus builders around the country. It is expected the competition will be extremely intense and the successful bidder will also win a strong boost in its brand image and business operation amid the weak demand in the foreseeable future.
