Golden Dragon Bus Wins “China Buses Overseas Great Achievements Award – Tunisia Star”

30 January 2026

Tunis – The much-anticipated “China Buses Overseas Great Achievements– Tunisia Star” has named its 2025 winner: Golden Dragon Bus. The company secured the honor through a record-breaking procurement contract for 462 city buses in Tunisia – a deal that not only marks the largest government bus tender in the country’s history, but also stands as a textbook example of how Chinese buses are deepening their presence in North Africa and advancing Belt and Road cooperation.

The “Tunisia Star” award was established to highlight Chinese bus manufacturers that excel overseas, recognizing enterprises whose products, services, technology transfer, and corporate social responsibility have delivered tangible value to Tunisian society. As a key Belt and Road partner and a transport hub in North Africa, Tunisia is accelerating the green renewal of its public transport fleet. Chinese buses – praised for their reliability, advanced technology, and finely tuned local adaptations – now serve routes ranging from urban trunk lines to rural connections, providing Tunisians with efficient, low-carbon mobility while supporting national sustainability goals.

Golden Dragon’s award submission centered on the 462-unit order, which ended decades of European supply dominance in the Tunisian bus market. Since 2018, the company has operated an SKD (semi-knocked-down) facility in Tunisia, steadily building brand equity and local expertise. To withstand Tunisia’s coastal humidity, abrasive sandstorms, and varied road conditions, Golden Dragon engineers introduced upgrades such as second-generation cathodic electro-coating and automated sealing spray lines, followed by extensive validation through 25,000km accelerated durability tests.

When postdelivery audits identified additional technical requirements, Golden Dragon undertook fullscale modifications despite cost and timeline pressures, earning high praise from the national operator. The buses are now being deployed across 14 cities and 15 public transport companies, backed by localized aftersales service and parts support.

A Golden Dragon spokesperson described the award as “an industrywide recognition of our overseas strategy and powerful testimony to what ChinaTunisia transport cooperation can achieve.” The company pledged to continue strengthening its global competitiveness through innovation and deeper localization, “delivering greener, smarter mobility solutions to Belt and Road partner countries and writing the next chapter in the global journey of Chinese buses.”
