BYD Electric Buses Delivered in Bulk to Azerbaijan Again

28 September 2025

On September 24, BYD and Azerbaijan’s BAKUBUS held a delivery ceremony at the Sumgayit Industrial Park to officially hand over the first batch of 50 electric buses. This follows the delivery of 160 buses in July last year and is part of a newly signed order for 300 vehicles. These buses are the first to be produced at the new assembly plant jointly invested in and built by BYD, the local conglomerate Sarda Group, and Azerbaijan’s State Oil Fund, marking a new phase in BYD’s cooperation with the country.

The ceremony was attended by Samad Bashirli, Deputy Minister of Economy of Azerbaijan; Guo Min, Chinese Ambassador to Azerbaijan; Tian Chunlong, General Manager of BYD’s Commercial Vehicle Division; and Cao Shuang, General Manager of BYD Europe’s Central Asia Sales Region.

Tian Chunlong stated: “The fulfillment of the 300-bus order and the successful launch of the plant reflect the depth and breadth of BYD’s cooperation with Azerbaijan in green transportation. BYD aims to support Azerbaijan in developing its new-energy commercial vehicle industry and advancing the green transformation of public transport through its leading electrification technologies and comprehensive industrial chain.”

The plant is scheduled to begin CKD (Completely Knocked Down) assembly in 2027, which will further enhance local manufacturing capabilities and help Azerbaijan build an efficient, low-carbon public transport system. The 300 buses will operate in Baku, Karabakh, and Nakhchivan; the remaining units will be assembled locally and delivered in stages.

Following the ceremony, a BYD delegation met with Azerbaijan’s Minister of Economy, Mikayil Jabbarov, to discuss expanding cooperation, advancing concrete projects, and accelerating localization.
