Shandong Times Battery Production Base Officially Launches Operations

22 May 2025

Recently, the energy storage and power battery production base of Shandong Times New Energy Technology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Shandong Times") was officially inaugurated in Yanzhou District, Jining City. This marks Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited's (CATL) first production base in northern China and the largest planned production capacity in the region to date. The event was attended by relevant leaders from Shandong Province and Jining City, as well as Zeng Yuqun, Chairman and CEO of CATL, and other key personnel. They witnessed the signing of cooperation agreements spanning multiple fields, including zero-carbon cities, industrial new energy transformation, large-scale battery swapping, and ship electrification.

The new base of Shandong Times is constructed to the "Lighthouse + Zero-Carbon Factory" standards and is equipped with the world's leading digital and intelligent production lines. The base is divided into three phases of construction. The first phase, which has now commenced operations, has a total capacity of 60GWh, covers an area of over 800 acres, and features a total construction area of 520,000 square meters. This includes a fully intelligent production space that encompasses both factory buildings and living facilities. The second and third phases are expected to be operational within the next one to two years, with the potential to form a world-leading trillion-yuan-level new energy battery industrial cluster.

Lin Wu, Secretary of the Shandong Provincial Party Committee, and Zeng Yuqun, Chairman and CEO of CATL, engaged in in-depth discussions on the construction of a zero-carbon ecosystem. Lin Wu emphasized that Shandong will continue to optimize its business environment and fully support CATL's development in the province. Zeng Yuqun noted that CATL's ambitions extend beyond battery manufacturing. The company aims to leverage its strengths in products and technologies, combined with its own carbon reduction experience, to build an efficient, clean, and safe zero-carbon ecological industry. In the future, more innovative new energy businesses are expected to be established in Shandong, contributing to the green, low-carbon, and high-quality development of the province's new energy industry.

On the day of the event, CATL signed a series of cooperation framework agreements with multiple parties. It will jointly build a zero-carbon city with Jining City and promote the battery swapping model in the transportation sector in collaboration with the Shandong Provincial Department of Transportation. Additionally, Shandong Times signed an agreement with Jining City for the joint construction of a new energy supporting industrial park. CATL's Electric Ship Technology Co., Ltd. also signed a cooperation agreement with Jining Port and Shipping Development Co., Ltd. to develop a green and intelligent demonstration route on the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal.

Looking ahead, CATL will further explore opportunities with Shandong to create provincial demonstration zones, such as a new energy vehicle battery swapping network, a low-altitude economy around the Bohai Sea, and the electrification of inland and coastal shipping. The company will also accelerate the construction of the Dongying Zero-Carbon Industrial Park and other cooperation projects, aiming to establish more benchmark applications of zero-carbon scenarios in Shandong.
