China Diesel Engine Sales Reach 1.5 Million Units in First Four Months

In April 2025, the market sales of multi-cylinder diesel engines, commonly referred to as diesel engines, reached 380,800 units, marking a year-on-year increase of 3.72% but a month-on-month decline of 14.09%. From January to April, cumulative sales of diesel engines amounted to 1,504,900 units, representing a year-on-year growth of 2.99%. During this period, diesel engine sales ranked fourth among the past seven years.
In April 2025, six out of the top ten diesel engine manufacturers achieved positive growth. Weichai, Yuchai, Yunnei, Xinchai, Dongfeng Cummins, FAW Jiefang, and Honeycomb Energy all outperformed the industry's average growth rate. In terms of sales volume, Weichai was the only manufacturer to sell over 60,000 units in a single month, with a total of 60,000 units sold. Yuchai came in second with 57,000 units, followed by Yunnei with 36,000 units, Quanchai with 30,000 units, and Xinchai with 29,000 units. Dongfeng Cummins, Jiangling, Yituo, FAW Jiefang, and Honeycomb Energy each sold over 10,000 units in April.
From January to April 2025, Weichai led the pack with cumulative sales exceeding 270,000 units. Yuchai, Quanchai, Yunnei, and Xinchai each surpassed the 100,000-unit mark. Dongfeng Cummins sold 76,000 units, while JMC, Yituo, FAW Jiefang, and Honeycomb Energy each recorded sales of around 60,000 units.
In the commercial vehicle diesel engine market in April 2025, Weichai topped the list with a single-month sales volume of 32,000 units. Yuchai followed closely with 25,000 units, securing the second position. Yunnei was the only other enterprise to sell over 20,000 units in a single month.
From January to April 2025, the top ten enterprises in terms of sales volume were Weichai, Yuchai, Yunnei, JMC, Foton Cummins, Quanchai, FAW Jiefang Power, JAC, Dongfeng Cummins, and Ouman. These top ten enterprises accounted for 88.53% of the total sales volume. Notably, Yuchai, Yunnei, and Quanchai achieved market share growth, with Yuchai leading the industry with a 3.5% increase in market share.
