CATL Creates a Revolution in the Battery Market with Its Naxtra Technology

The Chinese company Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Ltd. (CATL), a company dedicated to battery manufacturing, has taken a transcendent step in the energy industry by presenting its new sodium battery called Naxtra, the first sodium ion battery mass produced in the world.
This advance promises to transform the energy storage and electrical mobility market, offering a safer, more economical and sustainable alternative to traditional lithium batteries.
The Naxtra battery stands out for its ability to operate in extreme conditions, maintaining 90% of its usable power even at temperatures of -40 °C, an exceptional performance that makes it an ideal solution for cold climates and regions with adverse conditions. Furthermore, its autonomy of up to 500 kilometers in electric vehicles and its ability to overcome 10,000 charging cycles position it as a durable and efficient option.
Sodium, the key element in this technology, is more abundant and economical than lithium, which reduces dependence on scarce and costly resources. Even though its energy density is lower, CATL has managed to optimize its performance, reaching a density of 175 Wh/kg, comparable to the LFP (lithium-hierro-phosphate) batteries that dominate the current market.
CATL has highlighted that sodium technology represents an advance in «energy freedom», reducing dependence on a soil resource and promoting the diversification of energy sources. Furthermore, the company has implemented measures to guarantee the intrinsic safety of its batteries, eliminating factors that favor combustion and improving thermal stability.
Mass production of Naxtra batteries will begin in December 2025, while the version for commercial vehicles will be available from June of this year. With these innovations, CATL on the ground seeks to diversify its offering, while also consolidating its position as a global leader in battery technology, driving the transition towards a more sustainable and affordable future.
With a market share exceeding 38%, CATL reaffirms its leadership in the battery industry, setting a new standard in innovation and sustainability.
