Golden Dragon Bus Empowers Qianhai Smart Mobility

03 April 2025

As the 2025 Government Work Report from the National People's Congress (NPC) emphasizes the "AI+" initiative, intelligent technology products have sparked widespread discussion. Among them, the Shenzhen Qianhai autonomous driving bus project has drawn significant attention. As China's first regular public transit line fully operated by intelligent connected vehicles, it highlights Shenzhen's leadership in smart transportation and marks the maturity and broad application of China's autonomous driving technology. Xiamen Golden Dragon Bus Co., Ltd. ("Golden Dragon"), as the core vehicle supplier, has become the "star product" of Shenzhen's smart transportation with its cutting-edge technology and exceptional performance, delivering a brand-new travel experience to citizens.

Since entering the autonomous driving field in 2012, Golden Dragon has focused on independent R&D of key technologies, achieving remarkable breakthroughs in autonomous driving, vehicle-to-everything (V2X) communication, and intelligent connected cloud platforms. Its electric drive-by-wire chassis technology leads domestically, providing a robust guarantee for the stable operation of autonomous buses. Currently, Golden Dragon's autonomous vehicles have undergone trial operations in multiple cities nationwide, accumulating over 10 million kilometers in driving mileage and demonstrating readiness for normalized operations.

In the Qianhai project, Golden Dragon's ASTAR L4 autonomous micro-circulation bus has set multiple domestic firsts. It was the first to operate autonomously on open roads in Israel, obtained the inaugural passenger vehicle autonomous driving test license issued jointly by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), Ministry of Transport (MOT), and Ministry of Public Security (MPS), and supported the launch of the world's first urban open-road "5G Autonomous Micro-Bus" demonstration route in Wuzhen. Widely reported by CCTV and other major media, it has become a symbol of "Made in China" innovation.

The autonomous buses deployed in Qianhai integrate advanced technologies such as 5G vehicle-road collaboration, multi-sensor fusion perception, and high-precision mapping positioning, enabling millisecond-level road response and precise decision-making. By leveraging visual algorithms to predict traffic light changes, the vehicles resolve the common issue of autonomous vehicles rushing through amber lights during countdown phases. Continuous cloud data training refines driving algorithms to mimic experienced drivers' habits, addressing overly aggressive lane changes and achieving comprehensive upgrades from autonomous driving to intelligent lane switching and precise stopping.

Since the trial operations of the first autonomous bus line in August 2024, Qianhai has successfully launched four autonomous bus routes. They have transported 41,874 passengers, logged 32,400 kilometers in passenger mileage, and maintained a safe operation record of over 200 days with "zero accidents and zero delays." This achievement is inseparable from the efficiency, safety, and stability of Golden Dragon's autonomous buses.

Citizens have praised the Golden Dragon autonomous buses. Mr. Lin, a frequent passenger from Longhai Homeland in Qianhai, commented, "The autonomous buses navigate fully open roads, use 5G vehicle-road collaboration to access real-time traffic light statuses, and adjust speeds dynamically. Their braking responses are more precise and timely than human drivers, especially when yielding to pedestrians at zebra crossings. It's truly reassuring."

As a core engine of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, Qianhai's autonomous bus demonstration not only drives local transportation intelligence upgrades but also positively impacts the Bay Area's technological development. The application of Golden Dragon's autonomous buses showcases the immense potential of new productive forces in transportation, providing valuable insights for implementing the strategies of strengthening technological security and building a transportation powerhouse.
