CATL Hosted the Inaugural "ESG Forum"
29 October 2024
CATL has been deeply committed to energy conservation and emission reduction. In 2023, the company achieved a 65.1% reduction in comprehensive carbon emission intensity across its battery factories compared to 2020. Currently, nine of its battery factories have been certified as "Zero-Carbon Factories" through the PAS 2060 standard. Led by CATL's reduction efforts and driven by its carbon management platform, it has become a new possibility for the upstream and downstream industries to accelerate the realization of carbon neutrality together.
At the end of 2023, CATL self-designed and developed Carbon Chain System was launched. This platform integrates carbon emission data collection, modeling, accounting, analysis, and certification, with a database covering the entire lithium battery industry value chain from raw material mining to used battery recycling. CATL hopes to collaborate with industry partners on this platform, building an authoritative database for the lithium battery industry and facilitating more efficient carbon neutrality efforts for both CATL and its partners.
The forum mentioned that, amidst global challenges and geopolitical uncertainties, overseas market competition has shifted from a focus on products, technology, and financial strength to ESG-related dimensions such as green concepts, local contributions, and business ethics. ESG's influence on global industrial chain layout is increasing.
Over the past three years, CATL MSCI ESG rating has improved from BBB to AA, placing it at the forefront of the industry. The company has also received ESG honors from organizations such as CCTV, Forbes China, Ernst & Young, and S&P, and was recognized by the China Association for Public Companies as a Best Practice in Corporate Governance for 2023.
As a key link connecting the upstream and downstream of the industrial chain, CATL has the responsibility, obligation, and advantage to bring together various forces, promote the popularization of sustainable concepts and practices across the chain, and assist the industrial chain in achieving sustainable transformation and upgrading.
During the roundtable discussion, CATL and various supplier partners freely exchanged ideas, providing over 30 industry-specific analyses and solutions covering compliance for overseas enterprises, responsible management, and energy conservation and carbon reduction. It is believed that these summaries and reflections will bring new impetus to the development of the lithium battery industry.
At this ESG Forum, CATL and its industry partners jointly explored the prospects and opportunities for sustainable development, deepening their consensus. Looking ahead, CATL will continue to collaborate with global partners, staying true to its original aspirations, embracing openness, and building a new sustainable ecosystem together.
